My choices seem to be:
1. Edit .Suite file with Notepad (only viable if changes aren't too radical).
2. Remove and re-add the package. This really a pain... what with having to add all the settings back in. Is there a better, less error prone way?
Thanks.

We have recently upgraded an InstallScript MSI project from 2009 to InstallShield 2012. In the release, we have elected to include the MSI 2.0 engine (extracted from setup.exe). After building, when we attempt to run it on a clean XP box, we get the message:

"This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service".

If the 4.5 MSI engine is installed on the PC, the MSI will be run properly. However, we neither want MSI Engine 4.5 as a requirement. We would like to have 2.0 as the minimum version required (the installation of 4.5 requires a reboot and is much more intrusive to our customers.).

DOes anyone know of a way to downgrade (in the release section of the GUI) the minimum MSI requirement so that this will run on older versions of the MSI Engine? I have searched everywhere to no avail. Building off the command line with a -g flag to manually specify minimum MSI level doesnt stop this error message from popping up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

I'm trying to virtualize some applications without any luck. Using the Automated Application Converter, I added my VM that reside on an esx Server and added some packages with the Package Import Wizard.

Then, I select 1 package and "Launch Package for testing..." but I don't see the VM in the list.

The only way I was able to convert app to virtual is by using the App Conversion Project Wizard, browse for a package (i already have some packages configured!!!), configuring the esxServer (also, already configured!!) and selecting a VM.

Is there a better method to convert app to Virtual ??

I'm starting to regret the acquisition of AdminStudio 11.0 versus using Wise Package Studio 8 and App-V Sequencer... Help me to change my mind.

Thanks

Hi all,

We are facing an issue with the installer of our product. The issue is described below.

When we launch our setup.exe by double-clicking, on a 64-bit or 32-bit machine, there are no problems and MSI gets extracted and installs fine. We have a management platform which can push setup.exe to endpoint systems and it calls the setup.exe with SYSTEM privilege. When this happens in 32-bit machines, there are no issues. But in 64-bit machines, MSI gets extracted to a folder

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\{26EC918A-D1A4-4712-963B-762A1022D751}.

But when the windows installer tries to launch the MSI, it looks in

C:\Windows32\ config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Downloaded Installations\{26EC918A-D1A4-4712-963B-762A1022D751}

because SYSTEM user doesn't have a home directory. So it throws a ‘File not found’ error.

This happens only when setup.exe is launched with SYSTEM privilege on 64-bit machines.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

I'm facing a problem wherein, I've the installer created which correctly behaves on 32-bit win OS w.r.t adding and removing registry entries.

However, on 64-bit win OS like Win7, vista etc. It adds the registry entries under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MicroSoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\"My-Product-Name"
(Please note 'Wow6432Node') in the path.

However, on uninstall, these do not get removed and thus the entry in Add/remove continues to remain.

i checked a file com.zerog.registry in my install location and it shows path of registry key without Wow6432Node in which case it will not be deleting my product entry from Wow6432Node tree.

Is this a known issue in 2010 and fixed in 2011 SP3?

thanks

Last week, I started having issues with Installshield 2011. I got a C++ runtime library error every time I tried to create a new project, or open an existing project.

I did a few things while trying to fix this, including completely uninstalling and reinstalling. Eventually, I decided to try activating Installshield on a different machine so that I could create a quick installer for our customers while our build machine was down. However, I when I attempt to reinstall Installshield on the original machine, I get this:

Error 20676: The license has been transferred between computers more times than is allowed.

This happens on both computers whenever I try to install Installshield. So basically, I have a completely useless Installshield license that can't be used on any machine.

I have sent Flexera several emails to the following addresses:
flexerasoftware at subscribenet dot com
support at subscribenet dot com
supportplc at flexerasoftware dot com

But I have not received any response regarding this issue. We need to get Installshield up and running ASAP, and at this point, we are considering cutting our losses and just ditching Installshield. Is there any other way to get some support? Tried calling and was told I needed to buy a Silver maintenence account before I could get support over the phone.

Creating Minor Upgrade and Caching the update

I created a Minor upgrade based on our released product, only 3 files changed to newer versions.

I created a patch .msp from this minor upgrade as well.

When I run the .msp in /Update or REINSTALLMODE=vomus the patch correctly updates the 3 files and all is ok. If I delete the 3 files and run repair from ARP then the new files are correctly repaired. All great...

If on the other hand I use the Minor upgrade .msi and push out with REINSTALLMODE=vomus with/without REINSTALL=ALL the files are correctly installed/updated and all is good, but if I delete these files and then hit repair in the ARP then original version of these files are re-installed!!!

So why is the new .msi not re-caching the updated files so that repair works as expected? I thought the v on vomus was to use the updated .msi and to recache the .msi on the system, but that does not seem to be working.

Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Thanks,
